Construction of the bridge, which began in 2016 by Metgün İnşaat, includes a 1,700-meter-long bridge, 130-meter-diameter roundabouts, and 4.1 km of connecting roads.
The bridge, which includes bicycle, vehicle, metro, and pedestrian lanes, is Turkey's fourth largest bridge.
Adana, Turkey's sixth largest city and one of the country's leading agricultural, commercial, and cultural centers, has seen its rapidly growing urban population exceed 2 million, with vehicle ownership increasing significantly. As part of efforts to regulate urban traffic in Adana, which also serves transit traffic connecting the Western Mediterranean and Central Anatolia regions to Southeastern Anatolia and the GAP Region, the Adana 15 July Martyrs Bridge was completed.
The project will save a total of 285.5 million TL annually, including 254.6 million TL in time savings and 30.9 million TL in fuel savings, and will reduce carbon emissions by 4,224 tons per year. The 38.25-meter-wide bridge will serve road traffic with six lanes, three in each direction. The bridge also features a railway line with one lane in each direction, as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths. The 38.25-meter-wide Adana 15 July Martyrs Bridge is wider than the 33.40-meter-wide 15 July Martyrs Bridge in the Istanbul Strait.
