The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and its subsidiary company İSTAÇ inaugurated a waste incineration and energy production facility. The opening ceremony was attended by CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, İYİ Party Chairman Meral Akşener, and İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The construction of the facility was undertaken by the Turkish consortium represented by Makyol, consisting of Makyol Construction, İspa Construction, and Metgün Construction, in partnership with Hitachi Zosen Inova AG.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements about the waste incineration and energy production facility. Mayor İmamoğlu said, "We are proud to bring Turkey's first and Europe's largest waste incineration and energy production facility to Istanbul. Our waste incineration and energy production facility will dispose of 15 percent of the municipal waste generated in Istanbul through incineration. The plant will contribute to meeting the energy needs of approximately 1.4 million Istanbul residents with the electricity it generates. Construction of the plant began in 2017. When we took office, 20% of the facility had been completed. We closed the financial gap and continued construction, ultimately opening the facility. Our facility, which supports domestic production, will also contribute to meeting Turkey's energy needs. With a daily capacity of 3,000 tons and an annual capacity of approximately 1 million tons, the facility will reduce the amount of waste," he said.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and its subsidiary company İSTAÇ, which have implemented new generation, environmentally friendly waste disposal and recycling facility investments with the aim of improving the quality of life for Istanbul residents and protecting the city's nature and all living creatures, have brought Turkey's first and Europe's largest waste incineration and energy production facility to Istanbul.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Waste Incineration and Energy Production Facility disposes of 15% of Istanbul's municipal waste without any pre-treatment, incinerating an average of 3,000 tons of waste per day directly using thermal methods without harming the environment. The construction of the Waste Incineration and Energy Production project, implemented for İBB subsidiary İSTAÇ, was undertaken by the Turkish Group Consortium consisting of Makyol, İspa, and Metgün İnşaat, while Hitachi Zosen Inova AG was responsible for the technical infrastructure.
